Meet Andrew

AndrewOur son, Andrew, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder when he was almost 5 years old after being mis-diagnosed when he was 3 with only a learning disability. In addition to ASD he has low muscle tone and sensory processing disorder and an intellectual delay amongst other "labels". At the time of his diagnosis he had very little eye contact, would never respond to his name, had no interest in other children, didn’t have any imaginative play, didn’t talk, wave, point or kiss. Where did our little boy go? He had all of the right developmental milestones when he was a baby, but somewhere along the way we lost him.

Since being diagnosed we have treated Andrew’s Autism with the biomedical approach. He has been in Physical Therapy since he was 1, Speech Therapy since he was 2 and Occupational Therapy since he was 3. He is now coming up on 9 years old, still non-verbal and still a very special little boy. He now has eye contact, he even initiates it. He is drawn to other children, plays appropriately (most of the time) and is making sounds. A “mama” or “da” here and there, but it is progress. We are on the right road. The road to recovery.

Autism - A World Wide Epidemic

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability with difficulties in social interaction, impaired communication, restricted and repetitive interests and behaviours and sensory sensitivities. In 1980 1 in 5000 was diagnosed Autistic. Today 1 in 110 children is diagnosed with Autism and 1 in 70 boys. This is now a World Wide Epidemic.

Autism Awareness is something that needs to be addressed. For every sale we have in Australia we are going to donate a portion of that sale to the Autism Awareness Angels for all the good they are doing to spread the word.

Autism Awareness Angels

Autism Awareness Angels

Our Organisation:

The Autism Awareness Angels key focus is to help raise Autism Awareness in Every Way Possible and in Ways that has NEVER been done before! The Autism Awareness Angels is here to open the doors as the first point of contact and then allow key Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) organisations to play their significant role within the community.

Our Objective:

Our target demographic is young adults between the ages of 18-35 who may not have heard about Autism or come into contact with someone on the Spectrum. These Gen Y individuals are known to be incredibly sophisticated, technology wise and immune to most traditional marketing and sales pitches. With ever increasing numbers of children being diagnosed every day, it is vital that these young adults are somewhat more Autism aware, as Early Diagnosis and Intervention is the Key for their children. We are here to open doors and turn heads.

Proactive Awareness:

The Autism Awareness Angels is out to pro-actively raise awareness using unconventional methods to initiate first contact. Once attention has been gained, the Autism Awareness Angels plants the initial seed of Autism awareness. The Autism Awareness Angels is committed to further expand this service with the help from community minded ASD organisations that are better placed to further facilitate Autism Awareness, Education and Support.
